Bequest of Shadows is a dual-timeline novel that follows Zoe Lee, a young American woman who inherits a Venetian palazzo–and possibly a lost Caravaggio painting.

Zoe’s story is intertwined with that of Lena Antognetti, a young woman who lived in Rome in the early 1600s, one of Caravaggio’s lovers and a model featured in several of his works.

As Zoe tracks the lost painting, she learns of Lena’s history with the turbulent Caravaggio while battling forces that will do anything to keep her from her inheritance, including murder. Zoe’s search is further complicated by her attraction to Aurelio, a mysterious gondolier who may or may not be on her side.
